Eek! Why am I always playing catch up?! Well, it's the eve of my 33rd birthday (yikes!) and I thought I'd post about what we've been up to the past couple of weeks. So, without further ado, I present little snippets of the past 480 (or so) hours:

MY SWEET RANDOM BOY

Life is good. ;)
We were greeted with a chilling 20 degree drop in temperature (brrr!) and the rest of the gang. We each got about 15 minutes on each camera to shoot whatever we could. I went first on the 1D and never did get a chance at the Ds. Rob passed on the cameras and just watched me have fun. He became very popular with the ladies, too!! Well, it was hard not to gravitate to someone of his stature and NOT use him as a windbreak!! :) We had some good conversation, shot some birds (like, in the photog sense), and headed back to Carl's to indulge in some pizza and take in the entire safari slideshow. We had a great time and Carl was so generous with his cameras and his knowledge. Rob and I are going to save up to go on one of his safaris or a trip to the Galapagos. Uh-MAZ-ing.....
Just a few shots from Bolsa Chica:

We piled into the car and headed to "the desert" to spend some money. Not *our* money, mind you. Rob got a gift card for his work anniversary, so we headed to the Desert Hills Premium Outlets. I snapped a few shots of Colin while Daddy slipped into the Ferragamo store:

We finally decided to leave daddy to his own devices so Colin and I did some strolling. We stopped at a couple of coin-op kiddie rides along the way and, after a couple of hours, met up with Daddy at the Saks outlet. We had plans to meet my family for dinner to celebrate my grandpa's 90th birthday. Just the family at Panda Inn. It was really, really nice. We even got some smiles out of him. ;)

Took the day off today to be able to take Colin to his appointment for Kindergarten testing at "School B". He got accepted to "School A", so this was his second time meeting new teachers. I think he did well, but we won't find out for another couple of weeks. Fingers crossed!! :)
Before we headed over to the school, though, we killed some time at the library after I picked him up from preschool. He made a beeline to the childrens' books and we walked around a bit. For some reason, he gravitated to the "graphic novels" (comic book style), especially Bram Stoker's Dracula. He also liked the books about the Titanic and a poster of the U.S. presidents and government buildings. We sat for a while so he could flip through some books. I think it was the longest he's ever sat still without saying a word!
I think I'll follow his lead and pick up a good book. Well, at least a good magazine. ;)
It's a lazy Sunday. Just hanging out at home, chasing Colin around playing Spiderman vs. the Green Goblin and watching old DVDs of Bear in the Big Blue House. Being a lazy day, I snuck out to the Farmer Boys' drive thru for some breakfast and came home to a pillow fight with Dad.
Pillow fight!
"Stop!!! Take pictures of Daddy!!!"
I love rainy days.....
It's nearly 9am and the boys are still in bed. I had every intention of getting up earlier than I did, but I thought I'd treat myself to the extra hour. I think I'll let them sleep a bit more so I can have some quiet time. I've been meaning to check up on our little "garden" all week, so I'll do that today and clean up the house a little. Just a little.
Here are a few shots of our new container garden. Despite how large our yard is, it's a jungle of weeds at the moment. One of these days we'll actually get in there to landscape it and have a proper in-ground garden. Until then, I'm hoping these little pots will survive my not-so-green-thumb:

Meyer Lemon

Roma Tomato

Red Bell Pepper

Suhyo Cucumber

Strawberries
Colin is tickled to see that miniature green tomatoes formed while we were away for a few days:
I also have several herbs growing inside which I started from seed. Unfortunately, while we were gone, some of them succumbed to lack of watering. I'll have to sow a few more to replace the ones that don't look so hot.
From L to R (top to bottom): basil "Genovese", oregano, flat leaf parsley, spearmint and tarragon, lemon balm, boxwood basil, German and Roman chamomile, zinnia "Envy" (not an herb, but started as seed), sweet basil, more flat leaf parsley with peppermint in the background:
Here's to a fruitful year!
